In this edition of "In Memory Of..." I would like to highlight two Bernese Mountain Dogs that have had a huge impact on my life as well as many others in their community. AKC lists the Bernese Mountain Dog's standard temperament as self-confident, alert and good-natured, never sharp or shy. (http://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/bernese-mountain-dog/)
They were so dinstinctly different yet both of them were great ambassadors for their breed. Both dogs were owned and very loved by Noreen and Craig Lyman of Edmond, Oklahoma.
Murphy was an AKC Canine Good Citizen and certified therapy dog through H.A.L.O. (http://www.yourhalofoundation.org/). He touched many people by being there in some of life's toughest moments. He was patient and kind and loved his volunteer days being part of the dog assisted reading program where young children could read aloud books to him without fear of judgement. Can you imagine all the wonderful stories he got to hear? He provided support for many who just needed a lift in spirits. His time on earth was way too short. He was one of a kind and no one who crossed his path will ever forget him!
Gracie 2008 -2016
Gracie girl "always had a smile" for you and was exuberant about every single thing she did in life. Your eyes could not help but light up when you saw her coming or sometimes BOUNDING in your direction. Her owners are quoted saying "We knew early in the game that Gracie had an unbridled zest for life and a desire to get the most out of every minute of every day." That could not have been said better. She was a regular at daycare and a staff favorite at Pleasant Pooch. We all miss her dearly and the fact that we do not get to see that happy face is still hard for everyone to digest. But she taught us all a wonderful life lesson to not only seize the day, but also the moment, and even the seconds with your canine companion or the ones you love.
